Essential Oils for Negative Emotions

Appropriately, this is a follow up to my last post on NEGATIVITY!

Our emotions go to the core
of our cells!

Our emotions are deeply embedded in our cells. We literally get ADDICTED to our emotions and the negative patterns we create. The same thing could happen to me and to you but we would react differently because of our emotional DNA differences. I might internalize stress in my stomach, whereas you might internalize it in your back.

So what does this mean?! It means that our DIS-EASE actually causes DISEASE. How we process our emotions and embed them in our bodies will show up as pain – literally physical pain and disease in our bodies. So what you think is a stuffy nose is actually an emotional response. MIND BLOWING right?!

The GOOD NEWS…We don’t have to accept our negative emotions as a constant. We can change.

How can essential oils help this process?

Essential oils have secondary metabolites that can impact and support change to our DNA. Ever wonder why a plant can be a natural deer repellent or insect repellent? How does the plant tell the deer to stay away? Plants are very powerful in how they have evolved to protect themselves. They can provide this same protection in our bodies via thousands of compounds. Essential Oil molecules support each of our many body systems and provide countless benefits including the removal of toxins, oxygenating cells, and the opening of emotionally stored memory in the DNA. Essential oils directly stimulate the limbic system of our brain – this is the “EMOTIONAL BRAIN”.

When we touch or see something, our brain processes what we are touching and seeing before we REACT. When we smell something, it is quite the opposite– we REACT first and then we process what happened. Just walk into a room with Lavender diffusing and you’ll know what I mean. You will FEEL relaxed before you realize what you are smelling is Lavender. When you smell cookies baking, you FEEL hungry and comforted before you realize you just ate and probably should not indulge.

Smelling various essential oils and applying to various points on the body can help us to boost our mood in ways that move us to the positive and help us to transform and change our negative emotional patterns.

The volatile aromatic molecules travel, with their chemical messengers, through the nasal cavity to the limbic system in the brain. The limbic system in turn influences both the endocrine system and the autonomic nervous system.

How Aromatherapy Works

When essential oils are inhaled through the nose, aromatic molecules are carried through the lining of the nasal cavity via tiny olfactory nerves, located in the roof of the inner nose, to the part of the brain called the limbic system. The limbic system in turn influences the endocrine system and the autonomic nervous system.

The endocrine system is a major regulatory force in the body. It consists of glands that secrete hormones into the bloodstream; these hormones act as chemical mediators to regulate many bodily functions including mood, metabolism, and growth and development.

The autonomic nervous system operates, for the most part, below the level of our awareness. It connects the brain and spinal cord to the limbs and organs and directs, via electrical impulse, basic instinctive bodily functions such as heart rate, digestion, respiration rate, salivation, perspiration, and sexual response.

While it may seem counterintuitive, inhalation can be the most direct method of delivery for the healing components in oils. Through the nasal cavity, the chemical messengers have direct access to the brain and can go straight to work on the systems that moderate the body.

Topical Application:
When essential oils are applied to the skin, their healing components are absorbed into the bloodstream. From there they disperse to the specific organs and systems on which they work. Some of the essential oils’ components, carried via the bloodstream, can also pass through the blood-brain barrier to the limbic system in the brain, where they can influence the endocrine and autonomic nervous systems.

Whether inhaled or applied topically, essential oils can help bring about fundamental changes in physical, mental and emotional wellbeing by triggering, and strengthening, our bodies’ own natural responses.

Pulse Points
Blends can be applied to numerous pulse points, however the most popular point is on the inside of the wrist. Apply preferred blend to inside of wrist and inhale through the nose.

Benefits of Skin Application

Pulse points allow for easy absorption.
Essential oils repair the skin while simultanerously addressing their primary function.
Some essential oils are topical analgesics and provide a pain-killing effect.
Healing Begins With Intent

We believe that where the mind goes, the body follows. Inside every lovely box you’ll find a “statement of intention” specific to each blend. We offer those up as expressions to help guide your mind in the direction of health. Take a deep breath, consider the statement, and allow the curative properties in our blends to work in concert with your body and mind.

Just another reason to be using essential oils. I can even tell a difference in my husband’s overall demeanor when I diffuse essential oils. There are hundred’s even thousand’s of ways you can mix your oils to achieve the desired effects.  For more information on essential oils contact me at Natural Health and Wellness.
